About

The government has classified dyslexia as a disability. In my perspective this is not the case, it certainly brings challenges and obstacles for me to overcome, however, these challenges and obstacles never and will never bring me down and say that I cannot do something. School teaches dyslexics that they must work harder than everyone else. Nevertheless, I have learnt that whilst this can sometimes be the case, I have also been able to think outside the box, problem solve and work smarter not harder.

The world is made up of many different minds and ways of seeing and being, however, I would never want to change the way my brain is structured. This alternative brain structure that we call dyslexia brings out abilities that non-dyslexics do not have. Being a dyslexic helps me as a designer, it means that my visual, kinaesthetic and creative thinking and learning is very strong, it allows me to see things in three-dimensions, remember colours and accuracy, visually solve problems and take risks within my designs.

Whilst being a dyslexic visual, kinaesthetic and creative learner has its amazing highs it also has difficult lows, I consider myself to be a perfectionist. This in its own right is a blessing and a curse, it has been a blessing as I have always strived to achieve the best within my work and myself. Despite this, it has also been a curse as it can be very time consuming and knowing that perfection is not obtainable.

Being able to have the ability to see things in their three-dimensional form and also being able to visualise and imagine what they are going to look like before they have even been created interest me as a graphic designer and my design process has evolved around this. From a young age I have always been interested in buildings and architectural design. This happens to be genetic as my late father was a developer, specialising in building and creating houses and landscape designs. From this not only do I have a huge passion for architectural design my passion goes further into product and packaging design, and brand identity, especially creating a visually pleasing, eye-catching and conversational starting designs. Additionally, to all these elements that influence me, I also take great influence form nature and my surrounding.
